The number of Kenyan tourists who visited Uganda in 2022 increased by 40,000 from 336,294 in 2021 to 376,294, according to Paul Mukumbya, the country’s Consular General in Mombasa.
He revealed this during the launch of the second Uganda-Kenya coast tourism conference at the Kenyan coast, and encouraged missions abroad to incorporate tourism within their strategic plans and annual work plans.
The consulate is slated to hold the third edition of the Uganda Festival scheduled to run from April 17th to 21st, 2024 under the theme, ‘Leveraging culture and golf to promote tourism, trade, and investment between Uganda and Kenya Coast’.
The festival will be held at different venues over the five days. On 17th, it will be held at Diani Reef Resort. On 18th, it will be taken to Ocean Beach Resort & Spa in Malindi while on 19th, there will be a cultural performance at Vipingo Ridge Club House.
On 20th, there will be a golf tournament held at Vipingo Ridge Golf Course and other festival highlights showcased at Fort Jesus in Mombasa. The fest highlights will include Uganda’s sumptuous and uniquely tasty foods, cultural dances by Ndere Troupe as well as the golf sport. Ugandan comedienne, Anne Kansiime is expected to grace the Uganda Festival as the official MC.
Established in 2015. Uganda’s consulate in Mombasa takes care of the six Coastal Counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River, Lamu, and Taita Taveta. It has collaborated with key tourism stakeholders from Uganda and Kenya Coast to organise the Uganda Festival 2024.
“We started with an agri-business symposium in 2021 because the two countries are the biggest trading partners. Kenya is our biggest market for our dairy and dairy products,” Mukumbya said.
